ALMAX – Flexible Hybrid Electronics
/in Blogs/by susan@jfkilfoil.comDefinition of Flexible Hybrid Electronics
Flexible Hybrid Electronics (FHE) combines the flexibility and low cost of printed conductive circuits, interconnects, antennas, and sensors with integrated circuits’ complex capabilities and extreme malleability.
This innovative process allows us to create a uniquely resistant, highly bendable solution that is adaptable to several types of shapes and situations. As a result, they can incorporate into many new and emerging consumer, medical and industrial products and deliver on the promise of manufacturing electronics in higher volume and at lower costs.
Typical Applications for Flexible Hybrid Electronics
FHEs can be used in a variety of components and devices, including:
- In-Mold Electronics
- Medical Devices & Prosthetics
- Wearable & Healthcare Monitoring
- Smart Packaging & Labels
- Printed & Flexible Sensors
- Membrane Switches
- Internet of Things (IoT) Devices
The Benefits of Hybrid Electronics
By combining flexible and rigid components, this hybrid approach offers several advantages that cannot be achieved by either of the traditional methods on their own, including:
- Flexible Form Factor – Enabling Stretchable or Conformal Products
- Compact and Lightweight Design
- Increased Processing Power, Capabilities, & Transmission Range
- Ability to Use Low-Cost Substrates
- High Volume Manufacturing with a Low Cost Per Unit
- High-precision Production Using Advanced Printing Methods
- Cost-Effective
- Versatile
Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Methodologies – Conductive Adhesives
One of the options ALMAX uses to mount components on FHEs is conductive adhesives and epoxies. This replaces the need to mount components with solder reflow as traditional rigid circuit boards do. ALMAX uses Isotropic Conductive Adhesives (ICAs) capable of conducting in all directions for basic implementations such as passives and components with simple pinouts. Anisotropic Conducting Adhesives (ACAs) are used for more advanced deployments; please get in touch with us for more information.
